Good Energy shortlisted for regional award for sustainability

Good Energy has been shortlisted for a regional award in recognition of its support for a cleaner and greener future.

The pioneering renewable energy provider is a finalist in the inaugural 2023 South West Business Masters Awards.

The Chippenham company has been shortlisted in the sustainability category.

The winners will be announced at a gala dinner at the Bristol Harbour Hotel on Thursday 9 November.

The nomination relates to Good Energy’s support for renewables including solar farms, wind turbines and hydroelectric projects.

It has contracts with more than 2,000 independent generators across the UK. Last year they produced 700GWh – enough energy to power the equivalent of all the homes in Edinburgh for almost a year.

The company has also volunteered to sign up to the Science Based Targets initiative which commits it to the ambitious goal of a 50% reduction in carbon emissions by 2030.

It has already made significant progress by relocating to a new office in Monkton Park which is powered by 100% renewable electricity and green gas, and switched to a hybrid-working model which allows its 350 staff to work from home for part of the week if they wish – resulting in commuting emissions plunging by 80 per cent since 2018.

Hybrid working also means it needs fewer desks, allowing the company to reduce its office space from two floors to just one.

When colleagues do come into the office, the company offers an allowance that contributes towards travel costs, alongside a sustainable travel policy which encourages walking, cycling and public transport, as well as a Cycle to Work scheme and opportunities to lease electric or low-emission vehicles.

Good Energy will be represented at the awards by sustainability and facilities manager Cherish Jackson and facilities and engagement coordinator Amy Bishop.

Cherish said: “It’s great to be shortlisted for the inaugural awards. We hope the event will shine a light on the simple steps which businesses can take to reduce their carbon emissions and encourage greener growth.”

The awards have been organised by TheBusinessDesk.com.

A spokesperson said: “We will bring together business leaders and executives from across the region to celebrate business triumphs and successes.

“Businesses are becoming much more aware of their impact on the environment and this new award is to highlight the very best.”

Good Energy was founded in 1999 and boasts a 100% renewable electricity mix, as well as providing heat pumps and solar installations.
