Debut generational communication book shortlisted for national Business Book Awards

Latest from author, podcaster, keynote speaker and PSA President Alastair Greener

Generational communication expert and speaker Alastair Greener, who is based on the Wiltshire and Berkshire border, has been shortlisted for The Business Book Awards 2026 for his debut book, Generationally Speaking: How to bridge the generation gap and communicate with confidence.

The awards recognise business leaders and authors from across the globe who have shared their knowledge and experience through published work. This year’s shortlist was selected from more than 340 entries, marking a strong moment for Alastair following the release of his first book.

Alastair said he was pleased to see the book included. “Writing the book was a big moment for me,” he said. “It’s built on years of conversations, research and real-world experience, so to see it shortlisted like this means a lot.”

Generationally Speaking looks at how people from different age groups communicate at work and in everyday life, and how better understanding those differences can improve relationships and collaboration.

Alastair wrote the book following years of speaking with businesses, educators and organisations about the growing communication gaps appearing across workplaces and communities.

With eight generations now living at the same time, and four commonly working side by side, he said many organisations are still struggling to navigate differing expectations, communication styles and attitudes towards work and technology.

“Too often we fall back on stereotypes instead of understanding where people are coming from,” Alastair said. “The reality is every generation brings something valuable to the table, but communication breaks down when assumptions take over.”

Alastair said the response so far reflects how relevant the topic has become. “We’re living and working alongside more generations than ever before,” he said. “The challenge isn’t the differences, it’s how we understand them and communicate through them.”

The winners of The Business Book Awards 2026 will be announced on 16 September at a ceremony in London.

Alastair is a keynote speaker, author and President of the Professional Speaking Association UK & Ireland. Alongside his book, he hosts The Generationally Speaking Podcast, where he speaks with guests from different generations about how they see the world and communicate with others.
