The High Sheriff of Wiltshire, Martin Nye, together with Richard Deacon from the Rotary Club of Swindon have presented a cheque for £3,752.95 to Swindon’s domestic abuse charity, Society Without Abuse – money raised at the annual High Sheriff’s concert.
The concert, which is hosted by The High Sheriff on behalf of Rotary Swindon Cares, the fundraising arm of the Rotary Club of Swindon, saw Swindon’s Swing Birds again wow the audience at Christ Church in Old Town. The money raised was a combination of ticket sales and generous donations made on the evening.
Martin Nye, the High Sheriff of Wiltshire, said: “It was a pleasure to host the annual High Sheriff’s and help raise important funds for SWA. Domestic abuse can affect anyone of any age and background, regardless of gender, and it’s so important to be able to support victims and survivors, as well as put education and prevention in place to stop the cycle of abuse in the future.”
Richard Deacon, President of The Rotary Club of Swindon, added: “The Rotary Club of Swindon supports very many charities across the town, which all make such a difference to everyone living here. We’re very thankful to the High Sheriff for hosting the concert and we’re sure that the money raised will make a difference to those affected by domestic abuse in and around Swindon, as well as helping bring an end to domestic abuse thanks to the charity’s work with schools and colleges in the town too.”
Kate Rowland, CEO of SWA, accepted the cheque on behalf of the charity. She said: “The annual High Sheriff’s concert has a great reputation for the best music in Swindon and an evening of dancing and great fun, and this year was no different.
“We’re so pleased that again the money raised by the High Sheriff will go directly to our work to one day bring an end to domestic abuse through education, prevention and early intervention. With one in four people predicted to experience domestic abuse at some point in their life it is so important to not only work within the community to provide support and trauma recovery to men, women and children, but to also educate our young people in healthy relationships and work with those who are responsible for these harmful behaviours to stop it happening again.”
