Town recognises volunteer achievements

At the annual Fairford Town Meeting held in the Palmer Hall on Saturday May 24, the Mayor of Fairford, Cllr Richard Harrison announced that the winners of the 2025 Citizen of the Year Award are Dave and Donna Bull. The winner of the Albert Alder Award is Max Shankland (10).

Dave and Donna Bull have devoted a great deal of time serving the community as members of Fairford Primary School PTA. Donna is currently Chair of the PTA and has been on the committee for more years than anyone can remember. Both Dave and Donna have worked tirelessly organising quizzes, discos, cake sales, fireworks displays and Christmas bazaars to raise money to improve the daily lives of the children who attend the Fairford school.

In addition, they actively and passionately support PE at the school, and for many years, Dave has frequently taken school children in his minibus to events that they may not otherwise have been able to attend.

Donna and Dave do all this with such quiet humility. But, after so many years of this quiet contribution to the town, it was agreed that they deserve public recognition of their work and passion.

Max Shankland received the Albert Alder award for his initiative on litter, following in the footsteps of eco-warrior, Heather Kent (A Bag a Day Keeps the Litter Away).

Max has previously attended a Fairford Town Council meeting to talk about his ideas and is keen to do even more to help the environment. The Town Council commended his enthusiasm and willingness to come and speak about the town that he loves.
