The search is on for Malmesbury’s community heroes as Civic Awards open

Nominations are now open for Malmesbury’s Civic Awards, organised by Malmesbury Town Council.

The Civic Awards are given to those who councillors believe have made the most significant and sustained contribution to the local community in the past year.

The area in which the contribution must have been made is Malmesbury, Milbourne, Cowbridge, Burton Hill, Common Road, Foxley Road and Filands.
The Malmesbury Civic Award categories are: Citizen of the Year (for those aged 26 or over); Young Citizen of the Year (16 to 25-year-olds); Junior Citizen of the Year (under 16s); Malmesbury Young Sports Person of the Year (for under 25s); Organisation or Group of the Year; and 10 Year Service Volunteer Contribution Certificate.

Malmesbury Mayor Cllr Stephen James commented: “Our town is steeped in the kindness and dedication of people who often work quietly behind the scenes. These awards are our chance to shine a light on those unsung heroes who make Malmesbury, and our surrounding areas, such a vibrant and supportive place to live.

“If you know someone or an organisation who goes the extra mile, please take a moment to nominate them. I’ve seen many people and groups that support the community and deserve to be recognised, but I’m sure there are many more that I don’t know about. All their efforts deserve to be celebrated. I’d be delighted if we had nominations from every sports club, voluntary group, business, school and charity.”

Nomination forms can be downloaded from the Malmesbury Town Council website. Copies are also available from the Tourist Information Centre, or can be emailed upon request. Please email administration@malmesbury.gov.uk with ‘Malmesbury ‘Civic Awards’ in the subject line.

Nomination forms must be returned by 12pm on Monday March 23. The Civic Awards Ceremony will be held on Thursday April 22, at 7pm, in the Town Hall.
