That Friday Feeling with Downton Distillery

Try a Left Bank Martini…

This Martini reminds me of spring, it is light, fresh and puts some zing into your step.

It was created by Simon Difford at the Cabinet Room in London for the launch of the St-Germain elderflower liqueur in 2006. The name refers to Saint Germain des Pres, a Parisian district on the left bank of the River Seine.

The original recipe uses either Sauvignon Blanc or Chardonnay alongside St Germain elderflower liqueur. We had neither and used Pouilly Fuissé with elderflower cordial and it was just as good. We also used Belsazar Dry Vermouth, which added peach notes to the profile.

Ease of Making: Easy

Glass Type: Nick Nora

Taste: Spring / Summer in a glass, light and refreshing

Original Recipe:

  • 60ml Explorer’s Gin
  • 15ml Elderflower cordial
  • 15ml Dry white wine
  • 8ml Belsazar Dry Vermouth

Method:

  • Fill cocktail shaker with all ingredients and a handful of ice
  • Shake the cocktail shaker until it freezes in the hand
  • Zest the glass with some lemon peel
  • Pour contents into your Nick Nora glass

Variations:

  • Use alongside St Germain elderflower liqueur to increase the alcohol content
  • Try with different white wines or dry vermouths
