TEDx Railway Village delivers a powerful day of ideas and connection in Swindon

Swindon’s ideas took centre stage last week as TEDx Railway Village brought together speakers, partners and guests from across the town and beyond for a powerful day of conversation, reflection and connection.

Centred around the theme Lines of Connection, the event welcomed a full and highly engaged audience, creating a warm, thoughtful and inspiring atmosphere throughout the day. From the moment doors opened, there was a clear sense of community, pride and growing ambition for Swindon’s future – an energy that many described as both inspiring and, at times, emotional.

Across 14 talks, speakers explored ideas spanning business, creativity, community, science, heritage, ageing and social impact. Each perspective added to a broader narrative of connection, highlighting the strength, diversity and potential of voices emerging from Swindon and the wider region.

The audience included civic leaders such as the Mayor of Swindon and the High Sheriff of Wiltshire, alongside local changemakers, creatives and community leaders – each contributing to a shared sense of momentum and possibility.

Early feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with many of the 50+ attendees praising the quality of the speakers, the thoughtful curation of the programme and the professionalism of the event. The atmosphere in the room has been widely noted as a defining feature – one that encouraged reflection, sparked conversation and fostered a renewed belief in what Swindon can achieve.

Made possible through the support of local sponsors – including Swindon Dance, Swindon 105.5, Create Studios, GEL Studios, Tom Faulkner, Jordy’s Private Events & Catering, and Advanced Printing Services UK Ltd – the event highlighted the power of collaboration across the town’s creative, cultural and business communities.

All talks from TEDx Railway Village will be published on TED’s official YouTube channel in the coming weeks, offering audiences the opportunity to revisit the ideas shared and continue the conversation.

Reflecting on the day, organisers Rob Jandy and Debbie Bryan said:

“TEDx Railway Village was about creating space for Swindon’s ideas to be heard and valued. The energy in the room – from our speakers, our audience and our partners – was incredibly special. It felt like the beginning of something, not just a one-day event but the start of new conversations, collaborations and confidence in what Swindon can be.”

Tana Wollen attended the event, and had this to say:

“TEDx Railway Village was a genuinely special experience, bringing together powerful talks and performances that resonated long after the day. Highlights like Soumik Datta’s moving and captivating performance showed the strength of connection and storytelling woven throughout the event.”
