Rotary Club of Swindon has presented a cheque for £5,000 to Society Without Abuse (SWA) to help the charity continue its vital work helping victims of domestic abuse across the town recover from the trauma they’ve suffered.
The funds were raised at the club’s recent Annual Charity Ball, a highlight on the local fundraising calendar, bringing together community members for an evening of generosity and goodwill. The Ball has been held for over 35 years, raising over £1 million pounds in this time, which has been distributed across many local charities.
The donation will go directly towards delivering SWA’s specialist programmes working to end domestic abuse through education, prevention and early intervention.
Kate Rowland, CEO of SWA, expressed her gratitude: “We are incredibly grateful to Rotary Club of Swindon for this generous donation. It will make a real difference to the lives of those in Swindon who have experienced domestic abuse. These funds will help us provide vital support at a time when it’s needed most. It’s heartening to see the community come together to stand up for the most vulnerable, which is so important if one day we will see a society where abuse doesn’t exist.”
Rotary continues to play a key role in supporting grassroots organisations through fundraising and local outreach. Supporting the national aim of providing humanitarian assistance and promoting goodwill and peace at home and abroad, Rotary Club of Swindon is the oldest of the clubs in the town.
Jeremy Holt of Rotary Club of Swindon said: “This is a marriage made in heaven. Rotary is delighted to use money raised at a happy social occasion towards the absolutely vital work that SWA does day in and day out.”
