Portico Designs opens new office in Kingsmead Square, Bath, part of renewed business focus on the workplace

Portico Designs, the Bath-based publishers of designer cards, gifts, calendars and stationery, have taken new offices in Kingsmead Square, in the centre of Bath, as interest in office space increases across the city and the wider economy.

Portico Designs is a well-established and successful Bath business that provides both its own in-house designs as well as world-class licensed brands on its signature range of stationery, gifts and more. Its new offices are in the elegant spaces of an impressive grade II listed Georgian terrace that looks out across the leafy, bustling spaces of Kingsmead Square.

‘We’re pleased to have moved into Kingsmead Square,’ says Simon Harrison, Managing Director of Portico Designs. ‘Being together in the office strengthens our ability to collaborate, ensuring we continue to develop fresh ideas and high-quality products for our customers.’

Lindsay Holdoway, Managing Director of Bath-based property company HPH, which owns and operates the building, responds: ‘It’s great to welcome Portico to Kingsmead Square. This location is right in the heart of Bath in an area that has hotels, cafes and shops of all kinds and is still only a short walk to the railway station. It’s a major selling point for staff to work somewhere with a buzz, with life going on just outside the office door.’

Lindsay Holdoway sees Portico’s move as further evidence of a notable shift in sentiment, as businesses encourage staff to spend more time in the office.

‘There’s no doubt things are steadily changing,’ he explains. ‘We’ve had a fantastic start to 2025, with office take-up increasing markedly. For many employers it’s about reigniting the energy that comes from collaboration. Employers are having to consider the quality of their workspace to ensure their colleagues feel relaxed but engaged. For many businesses hybrid working is still possible, but with a much greater emphasis on time together in the office.’

HPH were advised by leasing agent Philip Marshall of Carter Jonas.

The Kingsmead Square terrace still offers some opportunities for businesses interested in finding an inspiring work environment, although HPH anticipates announcing another letting soon.
