Online fitness community for over 55s expands classes with new Zumba sessions

Latest news from Jim’s Gym

Jim’s Gym, the Cotswolds-based online fitness community for people aged 55 and over, is expanding its timetable in March with the launch of a new Zumba class, after strong interest from members keen to add even more variety to their weekly sessions.

The new class will be led by experienced instructor Rowena Wakefield, who began teaching during the Covid lockdowns and has since built a strong local following through classes across Cirencester, Cricklade and surrounding village halls. The session will take place live on Zoom via the Jim’s Gym membership platform.

James Hilton, founder of Jim’s Gym, said adding Zumba felt like a natural next step as the community continues to grow and evolve.

“Zumba is something members have been asking for, so it felt like the right time to introduce it. Jim’s Gym has always been about helping people stay active in ways that feel enjoyable and sustainable, and this is a great addition that brings even more variety and fun to what we offer,” he said.

“Movement doesn’t always need to feel structured. Sometimes it’s about music, energy and just enjoying yourself, and that’s exactly what this class will bring.”

Rowena qualified as a Zumba instructor after discovering the positive impact fitness had on her own wellbeing and has since expanded her expertise with Strong Nation training, a Pilates Diploma and Group Fitness Instructor certification.

She said she is passionate about creating sessions where people feel supported and confident.

“I believe fitness should feel like fun, not a chore,” she said. “As a Zumba instructor, I’m all about big energy, great music and creating a space where everyone feels confident to move.”

James said the introduction of Zumba reflects the gym’s ongoing commitment to listening to members and providing classes that support both physical and social wellbeing, as well as catering to all exercise preferences.

Jim’s Gym has grown by listening to what our members actually enjoy and what keeps them moving. Zumba brings a real sense of joy and connection, and I think people are going to love it. My aim is to offer enough variety that whether someone prefers strength work, Tai Chi, Pilates or dancing around the living room, they can find something that suits them, all in one place.”

The class will launch on Monday 9th March at 4pm, running every Monday thereafter via Zoom as part of the Jim’s Gym membership. The class is designed for anyone who enjoys dancing, has tried Zumba before, or simply wants a light-hearted way to keep moving.

For just £12.99 a month, Jim’s Gym offers more than 15 live online classes each week including strength training, Tai Chi, yoga, Pilates and dancercise, alongside over 500 on-demand workouts.

Members also benefit from a supportive online community, a Healthy Habits Club featuring a book club and craft sessions, and tools such as the Fitness MOT to help track progress. All classes include standing and seated options, making sessions suitable for different abilities and health conditions.
