“No plans to stop”: TECC Ltd provides hundreds of hours of work experience opportunities for Swindon’s young people

Swindon-based TECC Ltd, share their commitment to providing practical and nurturing work experience placements to foster young and local talent.

Since 2022, The Electrical Compliance Collective Ltd (TECC) have been offering work experience placements for prospective future electricians and office staff by providing hands-on opportunities and a nurturing learning environment to future-proof this vital industry.

Pete McCallum, founder of TECC Ltd, said: “If we’re not able to offer these opportunities, where are they going to get them from?”

“A lot of schools now don’t prioritise work experience placements for their students. There are only a few schools in the area who seem to offer placements and it’s the same ones we get approached by all the time. Specifically for my business and the industry, work experience is a perfect opportunity to identify emerging talent and tap into it early on.”

With these placements, TECC have been supporting young people going through their GCSEs and T-levels. They act as vital experiences for young people, aged 15-19, to develop essential skills to enter the workplace.

“In 2025 we provided 12 placements and supported 800 hours of work experience. By the end of 2026 we’ll be on course to support 1500 hours of work experience. There are no plans to stop what we’re doing,” Pete continued.

Archie Paul Thomas (19), from New College Swindon undertook work experience with TECC and speaks about the importance of work experience for young people entering the workplace.

“I put my name down because I wanted more on-site experience,” Archie said. “It was very positive. I was helping with the installation of solar panels, and we hadn’t learnt solar panels in college so it was interesting to learn…this progressed my skills and knowledge of a wider variety of electrical works that I wouldn’t have got otherwise.”

Dinaank Raut, a 15-year-old student at UTC Swindon, has an interest in a career in engineering and completed his work experience with TECC.

“I had a great experience working with the TECC team. I was treated as a valued team member from day one. A highlight was when Pete gave me the opportunity to use the company drone. Everyone was extremely welcoming and helpful, which gave me a very positive insight into the industry,” said Dinaank.

18-year-old, Jake Shurey from New College Swindon spoke about how TECC’s commitment to supporting early careers changed his confidence to enter the industry.

“I chose to take on the T-Level work experience role because it gave me the opportunity to gain hands on experience in a real workplace,” Jake said. “I enjoyed working at TECC due to its supportive and friendly environment. The people around me were always willing to offer help when needed, which not only supported my learning but also helped me build confidence in myself.”

TECC’s commitment to work experience placements has already proved a success as the team are set to welcome a former work experience student onto their full-time staff in the coming weeks.

Pete said: “Whatever your industry, I would recommend businesses take on work experience students.”

“Whilst it may take some time away from the revenue-generating focus some businesses thrive on, these young people provide you with a new perspective and they spot gaps that may help your business in the long run. Personally, it’s such a rewarding and positive experience and supporting young people into the workplace keeps the future bright.”
