The winners of the 2025 Malmesbury Civic Awards have been announced and recipients honoured at a gala event at the town hall.
These awards celebrate individuals and groups who have made exceptional and enduring contributions to the local community over the last 12 months within the designated areas of Malmesbury, Cowbridge, Burton Hill, Common Road, Foxley Road, and Filands.
Mayor Cllr Phil Exton presented everyone with their awards. He said: “One of the great pleasures of being the mayor is to acknowledge those in our town who have given their time to make the community a better place. It was wonderful to celebrate with everyone and to honour all who give their time in this way.”
The Malmesbury Civic Awards honour outstanding community members across various categories, including Citizen of the Year (26+), Young Citizen of the Year (16-25), Junior Citizen of the Year (under 16), Organisation or Group of the Year, 10 Year Service Volunteer Contribution Certificate, and Mayor’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Including the new award, Young Sports Person of the Year (25 and under), in honour of local personality and sports man Leon Pretorius.

*Jack Ranger-Walsh – Junior Citizen of the Year
*Atlas Anderson – Young Citizen of the Year
*Haroun Akhtar – Young Sports Person of the Year (the Leon Pretorious Award)
*Julia Bowen and David Shelley – 10 Year Service Volunteer Contribution Certificate
*Malmesbury Carnival – Organisation of the Year
*Julia Bowen – Citizen of the Year
The winner of the Paul Smith Mayor’s Lifetime Achievement Award was kept a surprise and announced on the evening day and the winner was Catherine Doody.
Cllr Exton said: “Catherine is such a worthy recipient. She deserves this award for her years of service to the community both as a town councillor and as an active volunteer for many local projects over many years.”
