Lawn Manor Academy teachers go the extra mile – or 13.1 – to inspire pupils

Four teachers from Lawn Manor Academy have proved to their pupils that determination and hard work pay off, not just in the classroom, but in the community too. The group successfully completed this year’s Swindon Half Marathon on Sunday, demonstrating the importance of setting ambitious goals and seeing them through.

English teachers Ruby Freeman and Dan Jacklin both finished in 2 hours 25 minutes, while Spanish teacher Begona Diez followed closely, crossing the line in 2 hours 26 minutes. Maths teacher Abbie Walldock, who was taking on her first half marathon, followed in 2 hours 39 minutes.

The teachers took on the challenge as a way of demonstrating to their pupils that resilience, perseverance and courage are key to success, whether in exams, hobbies, or personal fitness.

Abbie explained: “We all ran as a personal challenge and as a target to work towards to contribute towards general fitness and wellbeing. I personally had never run more than 10K before and so the sense of achievement crossing the finish line was amazing!

“By pushing ourselves to achieve something so important to the town and that brings Swindon together, we wanted to inspire pupils across the school to aim high, try new things, and believe that anything is possible with commitment and determination.”

Russell Langdown, Head of School at Lawn Manor Academy celebrated their achievement:
“We are incredibly proud of our staff. They are fantastic role models, showing our pupils that if you set your mind to something and put in the effort, you can achieve more than you ever thought possible.”

Lawn Manor Academy is part of the Ascend Learning Trust. For more information, visit www.lawnmanor.org.
