Lawn Manor Academy pupil quizzes her way to New York

A Year 8 pupil from Lawn Manor Academy is dancing her way toward New York, thanks to an incredibly successful quiz night raising over £450.

Daisy, a passionate young dancer, brought together 45 people for an evening of fun and fiendishly tricky questions, all to help fund the school’s upcoming dance competition in New York.

The quiz featured a variety of rounds including general knowledge, name the song, riddles, a kids’ round, what came first, and a movie round. Daisy, who was the evening’s quizmaster, designed the rounds and wrote all the questions herself.

“The quiz was such a fun night, and I’m so happy everyone enjoyed it,” said Daisy. “It was easy to write the quiz, but some of the questions were trickier, especially the music round. People said it went really well, which is good! I’m really excited about going to New York and getting ready – we’re doing street and hip hop styles, which are some of my types of dance.”

The event also included a raffle, which thanks to generous donations from B&Q, prizes up for grabs included cash, vouchers, plants, gift sets, and even a Skateboard.

This is just one of several fundraising events for the New York trip that staff and pupils from Lawn Manor Academy have organised. A bake sale and a sponsored walk from Swindon to Marlborough, taking over six hours, have put the dance troop well on their way to their target.

The next fundraising event for the trip will be Lawn Manor Academy’s Spring Fair on Saturday 10 May. Open to the whole community, the Spring Fair will feature a variety of activities, including games, food stalls, a dog show (weather permitting) and live performances, providing fun for the whole family.

Lawn Manor Academy’s Head of Dance Natasha Dixon said: “Our pupils are determined, ambitious and creative and Daisy is a great example of these qualities.

“The fundraising for the New York trip is going really well and we’re so proud to be part of a supportive community who are helping our pupils to achieve this once-in-a-lifetime experience. The Spring Fair is the next event to support our dancers and we hope to see lots of people there enjoying performances by our pupils as well as stalls and food.”
