From office junior to Office Manager & HR Director: Sophie celebrates five years at Family Wise

Wiltshire-based Family Wise is celebrating another major milestone as team member Sophie Treeby marks five years with the company.

Sophie, who is 22, first joined Family Wise in July 2020 as an office junior at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. Since then, she has progressed through the business and is now Office Manager and HR Director as well as being a key member of the senior leadership team.

“When I first joined Family Wise, we were a smaller team. I was eager to make an impact even in my early years with the company,” Sophie said. “I helped bring more structure to our day-to-day operations, introducing processes and audits that hadn’t been in place before. It’s amazing to look back and see how much the business has grown, and how I have personally grown with it.”

Sophie’s journey has been shaped by both resilience and ambition. After starting in hospitality, Sophie found her place at Family Wise, quickly impressing the team with her organisational skills and commitment. She studied Law at Cardiff University following her A-levels at Kingsbury Green Academy, developing a strong interest in employment law that has shaped her HR career.

Recognising her potential, Family Wise even created a remote role for Sophie during her studies, allowing her to remain an integral part of the team. Now, Sophie oversees all HR functions at Family Wise, from recruitment and wellbeing to performance management and compliance, while continuing to manage the office, health and safety, as well as managing the administration team.

She has led initiatives including employee reward schemes, a digital career development platform, and wellbeing programmes designed to support staff and encourage career progression.

Founder and managing director of Family Wise, Kirsty Gray, said “Sophie is the perfect example of how talent and dedication can shine when given the right opportunity. Over the past five years, she has been instrumental in shaping our culture, supporting our staff team, and ensuring the business runs smoothly as we grow. We’re incredibly proud of everything she has achieved.”

Reflecting on her anniversary, Sophie said, “Success for me is about creating a workplace where people feel seen, supported and inspired. I am proud to have played a part in building that culture here at Family Wise, and it feels really special to be celebrating five years with a company that puts people at the heart of what it does.”

Outside work, Sophie is passionate about travelling and exploring history and architecture, having recently spent six weeks travelling Australia. When she’s not exploring, she enjoys reading and relaxing with a good book or TV series.

Family Wise was founded by entrepreneur Kirsty Gray in 2012 and the team now consists of over 40 specialists working across the world to support people in building their family trees, tracing heirs in estates, and uncovering mysteries in people’s histories.
