Charity expansion leads to new development role for Cassie

Swindon Domestic Abuse Support Service (SDASS/SWA) has expanded its team with the appointment of Cassie Dawson as Training and Business Development Officer.

Cassie will be supporting the charity’s continued development and reach into the business community, as well as taking responsibility for growing the ambassadors programme and fundraising initiatives.

Having spent 17 years at Nationwide in a variety of corporate roles, becoming a specialist in social investment before moving into the education sector, Cassie originally joined SDASS/SWA in 2023 as a Schools Support Worker when looking to harness the skills she’d developed in a role that would give back to the community.

With a need to expand the Training and Business Development team, Cassie’s corporate experience presented the ideal opportunity for the charity.

Cassie explained: “For a long time, working for SWA had been a goal of mine as I wanted to give something to the charity that had supported me in the past. This role also particularly interested me, as I know the difference a supportive and flexible employer can make during difficult times.

“What we’re trying to achieve around prevention can only be done by working together. Having initially worked in the Children’s and Young People team, I loved working with children and the focus on healthy relationships as it’s so important to learn this from an early age, to know who you are and have the confidence to say no.

“Employers also have a massive part to play too. Supporting employees has undeniable business benefits in terms of overall happiness and productivity, as well as being able to spot signs of abuse and unhealthy behaviour. People in business may also have families and connecting all the parts is the only the way society can change. That’s the way we approach it at SWA – tackling the different aspects for the same cause and so taking a whole family and society approach to ending domestic abuse.”

Interim CEO of SDASS/SWA, Kate Rowland, added: “Cassie’s combination of corporate and social investment experience, as well as her passion for the charity made her the ideal choice for the role. We have ambitious plans for the future, including expanding our work with businesses both locally and nationally, and we’re all sure that she will play a pivotal role in achieving our goal of a society without abuse.”
