Residents and youngsters in Malmesbury are being asked to give their views on a new outdoor sports facility for the town.
The project, planned for land at White Lion Park, is expected to cost around £500,000 and will feature a free-to-use concrete skatepark and a tarmac pump track.
Leading the project is the Malmesbury Community Park community interest company, which was formed by local people in January 2025 with the aim of creating an outdoor space for people of all ages.
Malmesbury Community Park is working closely with the owner of the land, Malmesbury Town Council, in collaboration with skatepark designers Maverick and pump track designers Velosolutions.
Now the group are looking for input from locals – especially younger people who will use the facility – to help shape its final look.
Finalising the designs and projected costs will allow the CIC to apply for external grants. These will include applications to the National Lottery and Sport England, the government body responsible for supporting grassroots sport.
Malmesbury Mayor Cllr Robert Hastings said: “Because the facility is being built for the community, we want to ensure that the people who will actually use it have a direct say in what it looks like. We’d like local skateboarders, BMXers, scooter riders, and roller-skaters to share their views, and to help shape the final layout. As someone who spent a large part of my youth skateboarding, I think this is a very exciting initiative.”
An online survey has been set up on Maverick’s website, with a closing date of Tuesday June 9. To take part, go to https://www.maverickskateparks.co.uk/malmesbury.
