Wiltshire Furniture Studio develops free visual tools to help shoppers plan their homes

Wiltshire-based Forget-Me-Knot Furniture has developed a suite of free interactive tools to help shoppers answer some of the biggest questions involved in buying furniture online: will it fit, which colour should I choose, and what will suit my home?

The independent furniture studio, established in 2013 and run by directors Ash and Paul, specialises in hand-finished farmhouse and mid-century furniture, including extending and folding dining tables.

Its Table Fit Studio allows users to select a table, enter their room dimensions and explore different seating arrangements through a visual layout that updates as their choices change.

Customers can experiment with table sizes, chairs and benches, and compare the space needed for everyday dining with the larger footprint of an extended table when guests arrive.

With Christmas approaching, the distinction is particularly relevant. Finding a table that seats enough people is only part of the challenge: households also need space to pull chairs out and move between the dining area and kitchen.

The planner helps make these practical considerations visible, rather than leaving customers to interpret product dimensions in isolation. It is an indicative planning aid, with users still advised to measure carefully at home.

The studio has also developed Colour Studio, which lets customers explore furniture colour options visually, and a Colour Matchmaker that suggests three-colour palettes based on a chosen shade and a preference for a harmonious or contrasting scheme.

A separate Style Finder uses questions about colour, mood and design preferences to help shoppers identify suitable furniture styles and products.

Together, the tools are designed to make the website informative, functional and fun, while helping customers narrow down their options before ordering.

The approach draws on the studio’s experience of supplying furniture for real homes since 2013. Its range includes rustic pine, mango and oak dining furniture, with painted finishes offering scope to coordinate pieces with existing interiors.

For an independent retailer, the tools offer another way to explain its products and help shoppers make decisions. A table’s listed dimensions can describe its size, but a changing visual layout can help someone understand what those measurements mean within their own room.

The tools focus on practical choices specific to the furniture, including extending-table layouts, seating combinations and the relationship between painted finishes and natural timber tops.

Forget-Me-Knot Furniture trades through FMK Trading Ltd. Its online planning tools are free to use and do not require a furniture purchase.
