Swindon venues recognised in national awards

Swindon Theatres have been shortlisted for the Excellence in Workforce Culture Award at the UK Theatre Awards 2026.

The awards, administered by industry body UK Theatre sponsored by Encore, have taken place for over 30 years. This annual event has celebrated the creative excellence and outstanding achievements seen on and off stage throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. With nominees representing all four nations, this year’s nominees showcase the incredible range and quality of theatre seen across the UK over the past year.

Swindon Theatres – the Wyvern Theatre and Swindon Arts Centre, are operated by Trafalgar Theatres and have been recognised for the commitment of their dedicated staff and volunteers, who work together to create a supportive and inclusive workplace culture. Staff and Volunteer teams work collaboratively, and all share a strong commitment to making the Wyvern Theatre and Swindon Arts Centre welcoming venues at the heart of the local community.

Laura James, Director of Swindon Theatres, said:

“I am immensely proud that we have been nominated for a UK Theatre Award. The excellence in workforce culture category recognises the dedication and hard work of our team and our central objective, which has been to create a sustainable, inclusive and supportive workplace culture in which people can develop professionally while feeling valued and supported as individuals and build long-term careers in theatre. I am a strong advocate for taking care of the people in your business and have always prioritised team culture and wellbeing. Our ultimate measure of success is that we have a workforce that is skilled, confident, supported and able to thrive. We want people to join Swindon Theatres, develop here, progress here and take those skills and experiences with them throughout their careers. In doing so, we can contribute to a stronger and more sustainable workforce not only for Swindon Theatres, but for the wider industry.”

The Wyvern Theatre and Swindon Arts Centre place a strong emphasis on delivering excellent customer service and ensuring that everyone who visits feels welcome. Alongside their varied programme of live performances and events, Swindon Theatres run a range of community initiatives designed to encourage local people to engage with and enjoy the venues. These include the Memory Café, Summer Youth Project, Open Mic Nights, Play-In-A-Week Project and Family Fun Days, as well as partnerships with local charities and festivals and activities within the community.

The winners of the UK Theatre Awards 2026 will be announced at the awards ceremony, taking place on Monday 12 October in London, hosted by La Voix.
