Swindon Hub, the town centre’s accessible and welcoming space run by the community for the community, is marking International Day of Friendship on Wednesday 30 July with a relaxed day of social connection, free hot drinks, and simple, joyful activities.
The global awareness day, established by the United Nations, celebrates friendship in all its forms and highlights the importance of human connection in building strong, resilient communities.
Swindon Hub will be adding a few thoughtful touches throughout the day to bring people together, whether they arrive with a friend or are open to making a new one.
In the Hub café, visitors can enjoy a free tea or coffee with every slice of cake purchased – a small treat to encourage good conversation.
Two extra activities will be running throughout the day. The Friendship Table will offer a quiet, welcoming space in the café for anyone up for a relaxed chat. Near the main entrance, the Games Table will be set up with a variety of board and card games, with Hub volunteers ready to invite people to join in.
Rhian Brick, Hub Coordinator, said:
“We’re keeping things simple and easy-going – just giving people a reason to pop in, spend time together, and maybe chat to someone new.”
The Hub’s art gallery will also be transformed for the day into a friendship-themed installation, inviting visitors to draw or write what friendship means to them and add it to a collaborative display.
The day is being coordinated by Hub volunteer Hanah Khali, with support from the wider team. Hanah said “Friendship really is at the heart of what the Hub is all about.
“Whether you come in for a coffee, a group session or just to say hello, you’ll always find a warm welcome. Events like this help us celebrate those everyday moments that can grow into something special.”
Visitors can expect a warm welcome from the Hub team, whether they’re long-time supporters or stopping by for the first time.
Swindon Hub continues to deliver a varied programme of affordable food and drink, community-led events, and volunteer-supported activities, five days a week.
