Sue’s Art: Local Artist Bringing Nature to Life Through Vibrant Abstracts

Sue O’Sullivan, a London-born artist who now calls the picturesque county of Wiltshire home, is making waves in the art world with her captivating and colourful abstract creations. Inspired by a deep connection to nature, she infuses her work with emotion, aiming to evoke powerful feelings in her audience.

“Colour is a power which directly influences the soul,” says Sue, drawing from the wisdom of Wassily Kandinsky. “Colour is the keyboard, the eyes are the hammer, the soul is the strings. The artist is the hand that plays, touching one key or another, to cause vibrations in the soul.” This quote resonates with her as she explores various methodologies to create landscapes, often inspired by her love for ancient trees and untamed seas.

Her preferred medium is acrylic, although she occasionally dabbles in watercolours. Texture is her playground, and she fearlessly wields a variety of tools to apply paint, resulting in captivating effects on canvas.

In 2021, Sue achieved a significant milestone by winning the prestigious Theo Paphitis Small Business Sunday Award (SBS), gaining entry into one of the UK’s leading small business networks. Her talent and dedication were further showcased during the Chippenham Art Trail in the summer of 2022.

Recently, she had the honour of being interviewed by James on BBC Radio Wiltshire as part of the ‘Wiltshire Meets’ series. During the conversation, James was struck by the familiarity of her landscape-meets-abstract paintings. One piece, in particular, transported him back to his childhood memories of Ladye Bay.

Sue has recently joined Gifts Instead of Flowers and had expanded her creative repertoire to include smaller works of art, all lovingly painted on wood. These exquisite pieces make for thoughtful and unique gifts. Whether it’s a special occasion or simply a heartfelt gesture, Sue’s wooden artworks are sure to leave a lasting impression.
