Something for everyone: Malmesbury’s 2025 events lineup unveiled

A packed programme of events for 2025 has been unveiled by Malmesbury Town Council and Malmesbury Town Team alongside local organisations, with an array of choice for residents and visitors to the town alike.

All the details can be found in a new events and festivals calendar, available on the Discover Malmesbury website, or from the Tourist Information Centre and distributed at locations around the town.

Highlights for this spring include an exhibition on March 15 and 16 on the findings from last year’s Big Dig commemorating King Athelstan, a new festival celebrating Thomas Hobbes the famous philosopher, the annual duck race on May 4, and the lighting of a beacon on May 8 to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day. Also new for 2025 is the Pride of Place Festival – celebrating Malmesbury with many events and activities. Look out for St Aldhelm’s Fayre from May 24 to June 1 and the return of the popular eat:festival food and drink event on June 1.

For culture fans, events include the High St Plus Gallery in August and September and the Flying Monk Art Trail on September 27 and 28. Music lovers can enjoy the Shindig Festival in May, plus the return of the Folk & Roots Festival on September 20 and the Westport Sound weekend on October 11 and 12.

Malmesbury’s famous Carnival takes place in August, with a wide range of exciting activities and some new to be announced, with other annual favourites including Malmesbury in Bloom, and St Aldhelm’s Mead fireworks in November.

As ever, the year rounds off with the popular late night Christmas shopping, taking place on December 5.

Malmesbury Mayor Cllr Phil Exton said: “We are blessed in the town with very talented local organisations who, along with the Town Council, are keen to stage events and activities to entertain residents and visitors alike. We have a bumper programme this year and I am very much looking forward to attending as many events as I can and I hope the new Mayor, who takes over in May, enjoys the rest of the events calendar as I did last year.”
