New venue and strong numbers among older children shape successful summer for Swindon Holiday Club

Swindon-based Just For Fun Holiday Club has finished another busy summer, with more than 700 children attending at least one day across its five venues.

Sean Harper, co-founder of the club, said “This has been a fantastic summer for us. We’ve had over 700 children through the doors, more older children than ever before, and around a quarter of attendees with special educational needs. Seeing that mix of ages and backgrounds all enjoying themselves together has been brilliant.”

Rodbourne Cheney and Goddard Park were especially busy. “Rodbourne was up about 10% on last summer, and Goddard was 30% up,” said Sean. “Those are big jumps for us, and it shows families trust what we do.”

This year brought some firsts for the children. An ambulance crew visited, giving them the chance to explore the vehicle and learn simple first aid. Bluey and Bingo also came along, which was a huge hit.

“Our Diversity Day was another highlight,” said Sean. “The children had the chance to experience activities as if one or more of their senses were removed. I also gave a talk on sign language, and that really got people talking on social media. But for me, it’s always the small things – seeing new friendships form and knowing children feel included.”

The club also invested in extra staff to provide one-to-one support, so no child missed out. “We put more resource into individual support this year, and it made a big difference,” said Sean. “We also gave away £13,000 worth of free places. Being able to do that is something I’m very proud of.”

The newest venue at Moredon Sporting Hub was particularly popular with older children, who enjoyed bike rides, long walks, and the modern facilities on offer.

“Launching at Moredon was a big step,” said Sean. “The feedback has been brilliant, especially from older children who loved the freedom and variety there”.

Sean summed up the holidays, saying “This summer has been a real success for Just For Fun. We’ve grown again, we’ve tried new things, and the children have gone home smiling. That’s what matters most.”

Just For Fun Holiday Club currently runs at five venues in Swindon: Holy Cross Primary School, Grange Junior School, Goddard Park Community Primary School, Rodbourne Cheney Primary School, and Moredon Sporting Hub.
