After 31 years of supplying Fairford with delicious Indian/Bangladeshi food, Mr Miah from the ‘Curry King’ takeaway has retired.
Mr Miah opened his takeaway business on February 14, 1994 and, over the years, has raised his family in Fairford. Mr Miah and his wife, Yasmin have five children: two sons Nahim and Nabeel and three daughters Ruhee, Nazarin and Naima. They also now have two toddler granddaughters.
Before moving to Fairford and opening Curry King, Mr Miah ran several Indian restaurants including Biplob in Swindon Old Town and is also a Master Chef Award winner.
Now Mr Miah will be stepping back and handing over the business to family friend, Mr Shamim Ahmed, who has three restaurants in Swindon and who plans to keep the popular name ‘Curry King’ that is well known locally for first class food and service.
Mr Miah said “I am sad and happy about retiring. Sad to say goodbye to so many Fairford friends, but happy to be able to spend more time with my family. I also want to take a trip back to Bangladesh to see family and friends. I haven’t been back there in over 15 years.”
Clive Elliott, Chair of Fairford Cricket Club helped to organise a farewell and thank you party for Mr Miah and said: “Running an Indian takeaway must be a thankless task. Endless unsociable hours and challenging customers, so we would like to thank Mr Miah for his tolerance, patience and especially his food! He has been a big part of the Fairford community, and we didn’t want to say goodbye without saying thank you.”
