The pioneering renewable energy company is a finalist in the Circle 2 Success Business Awards 2023, which attracted almost 200 entries from across the South West and South Wales.

Good Energy has been shortlisted for the Culture & Diversity Award in recognition of its Inclusion Champions, a team of staff from different departments who volunteer their time to promote a welcoming and supportive working environment.

The winner will be announced on Wednesday 21 June.

The Inclusion Champions suggest areas for improvement, monitor progress, and arrange access to training and development opportunities covering a wide range of topics such as hidden disabilities and unconscious bias.

They also plan social events to bring staff closer together. These include a Pride picnic, lunchtime sports such as football, badminton and basketball, and even boardgame evenings.

The volunteers also work with Good Energy’s communications team to share their experiences with the media, hoping to raise awareness of important issues and drive change in other businesses and sectors.

Their stories have helped to generate media coverage for campaigns including World Autism Acceptance Week, ME Awareness Week and National Inclusion Week.

Inclusion Champions co-chair Mair Horscroft said: “Good Energy’s support for our group clearly demonstrates its commitment to being an inclusive employer where everyone contributes, and everyone feels valued and appreciated.

“It’s an increasingly sought-after quality for jobseekers who want to know they are joining a modern and forward-thinking business which truly values its staff and allows them to shine.”

A spokesperson for Circle 2 Success said: “C2S is about celebrating success and showcasing best practice.
“We want to encourage collaboration and knowledge-sharing to support growth in the whole region.”

Good Energy was founded in 1999 and boasts a 100% renewable energy mix, consisting of wind, biogeneration, solar and hydroelectricity projects from around 1,700 independent generators across the UK, as well as providing heat pumps and solar installations.
