GEL Studios appoints two new Directors and launches ambitious five-year growth strategy

Purpose-led creative agency GEL Studios has appointed two new Company Directors as it embarks on an ambitious five-year growth plan.

The B-Corp Certified agency based in Swindon, is known for becoming long-term partners with SME’s and combines strategic thinking with creative execution to deliver sustained success. Its in-house team of ten elevates brand identities, creates pixel-perfect graphic design, builds user-focused websites, and delivers marketing strategies that generate measurable returns.

Carly Smith, GEL Studios’ long-standing Creative Director and first hire, has been appointed as a Company Director. Having been with the agency for over a decade, Smith has played a central role in shaping the agency’s creative vision and building its reputation from the ground up.

Entrepreneur James Phipps also joins as Company Director. After advising and investing into GEL Studios for the past 18 months, Phipps has already helped drive record performance, enabling the agency to amplify its impact for clients and the community. His extensive experience in scaling businesses will be key to delivering GEL Studios’ ambitious plans.

As part of its five-year strategy, GEL Studios is committed to strengthening its local presence by acquiring other design and marketing studios across Wiltshire, and therefore is keen to speak with agency owners who are looking to exit.

Operating from its dedicated studio in South Marston, the in-house team is passionate about giving back to the community, ensuring that the company’s growth translates into meaningful, lasting impact. The bigger the business becomes, the more good it can do.

Reinforcing its commitment to its team GEL Studios has also introduced a Vestd employee ownership scheme, allocating 30% of the agency to both current and future team members.

By giving its team a genuine stake in the company’s success, the employee ownership scheme enhances its competitiveness in attracting top talent while nurturing a culture where individuals feel inspired to deliver their best work. The scheme is also set to build a stronger, more motivated and engaged workforce, driving productivity, improving retention and ultimately increasing the long-term value of the business. The agency is keen to talk to talented individuals who would like to join them and be part of this exciting journey.

Graeme Leighfield, Founder of GEL Studios, said:
“GEL Studios has always been about giving back. The more we grow, the more we can give back to the community. In 2024/25 we supported 17 local good causes, contributed over 1,400 hours of pro bono services, and positively impacted more than 130,000 people in the community.

“I want to thank Carly and James for their support so far and look forward to continuing inspiring change through creativity with them by my side”.

Carly Smith, Creative Director, said:
“From day one, creativity and doing good has always been at the core of GEL Studios. It’s been incredible to see how far we’ve come over the past decade. Stepping into the role of Director is a proud moment and I’m excited to continue shaping our future, growing the business while creating opportunities for our team and clients to thrive”.

James Phipps, Company Director, said:
“Over the past 18 months, I’ve seen first-hand the creativity, integrity and drive that fuels GEL Studios. Few agencies in Wiltshire deliver the same level of quality and impact both in the work itself and in giving back. Joining as Company Director means I can bring my expertise and help shape the next chapter of growth, one that puts people, clients and the community at its centre”.
