Gardening and art take front seat for Malmesbury In Bloom

The search is on for garden lovers and artistic youngsters in Malmesbury, as the Town Council seeks nominations for the annual Malmesbury In Bloom awards.

The awards have two elements – the garden competition and the children’s multimedia art competition.

Malmesbury In Bloom’s garden competition has seven categories, to cover all types and sizes of garden – from vegetable patches and wildflower areas to window boxes, courtyards and large gardens.

There are also categories for commercial premises (including pubs, hotels and restaurants) and a street, road or area.

The multimedia art competition is open to all children aged 18 and under, who live or go to school in the town.

Malmesbury’s Mayor, Cllr Stephen James, said he was hoping for a bumper crop of entries for both the gardening and multimedia competitions.

“Malmesbury In Bloom is one of the highlights of the town’s calendar, and a great opportunity for residents and businesses alike to showcase their gardens,” he said. “Equally, we have some very talented young artists and designers in the Malmesbury area, and I am looking forward to seeing what they come up with.

“I really encourage people to enter, in as many categories as they can. We take care that judging is not intrusive. Please don’t be shy!”

The deadline for both competitions is July 18. For the garden competition, judging will take place towards the end of July and early August, and entrants will be contacted in advance to arrange a visit.

Entry forms for both competitions can be collected from the Tourist Information Centre (TIC) in the Town Hall or downloaded from the Town Council’s website at https://malmesbury.gov.uk/your-community/local-news/local-news-archive?view=article&id=1879:malmesbury-in-bloom-2025-entries-open&catid=9.

Completed forms can be handed into the TIC or emailed to administration@malmesbury.gov.uk. For more information email administration@malmesbury.gov.uk. The finalists will be invited to an awards presentation evening at the Town Hall, with the Mayor, later in the year.
