First Ukrainian café opens in Cirencester

Phoenix Café is a new coffee shop in Cirencester opening tomorrow (Friday April 4) and run by a Ukrainian family – Olena, Andrii, Alina, Kris, grandparents Zina and Anatoli together with little Ihor and Elina.

Believed to be the first Ukrainian café in Gloucestershire, this enterprising Ukrainian family have worked tirelessly to convert what was previously a children’s clothing store in The Woolmarket to a welcoming café for not only the Ukrainian community, but anyone who wants to enjoy delicious homemade cakes and exceptional coffee.

Alina is a professional barista with extensive knowledge and experience in crafting exceptional coffee that stands out.

Alina’s mother, Olena has a passion for artistic baking of unique, handcrafted pastries made fresh with carefully selected ingredients. Whilst Alina’s father, Andrii is a talented cook who will surprise you with his traditional culinary skills, preparing the best homemade dishes from Ukraine alongside his mother, Zina.

Zina’s husband, Anatoli is a jack-of-all-trades who has put immense effort into the construction and renovation of the café. His hard work and dedication were essential in bringing their vision to life.

Kris, originally from Poland, is Alina’s life partner and is the business manager responsible for marketing, legal matters and keeping everything on track!

They all came to England in 2022 and were supported by a kind-hearted Fairford couple, Clive and Catherine Elliott. Kris said: “Clive and Catherine helped us start a new life from scratch in a foreign country, and we are deeply grateful for their kindness and generosity.”

From the beginning of their journey in England, they dreamed of starting a family business – something that would allow them to give back to the community while embracing the culture of their new country.

Together they have built Phoenix Café from the ground up! Their shared goal is to provide a welcoming place where you can feel at home – a place that is more than just a business – it is their passion and a symbol of unity.

Kris said: “We warmly invite you to visit Phoenix Café in The Woolmarket and experience it for yourself!”
