Final call for charity Firewalkers as SWA announces match funding boost

Swindon charity Society Without Abuse (SWA) is calling upon supporters to take on an unforgettable challenge and walk barefoot across hot coals in its fundraising Firewalk, and has announced that the funds raised will be doubled by match funding secured by the charity.

Registration for the event closes at midnight this Sunday, and places are filling fast for the fiery evening at Swindon Cricket Ground on Friday 10th October. Sponsored by Gel Studios, the Firewalk will see challengers walk 15 feet across burning embers reaching 1500 degrees, while friends and family cheer them on with food, drink and entertainment available.

The event is designed to mirror the bravery and resilience of domestic abuse survivors, who face the fear and uncertainty of taking their first steps towards safety and freedom.

Natasha Moyles, Operations Manager for SWA, said: “Walking across fire is a powerful way to show solidarity with survivors of domestic abuse. Each step symbolises the courage it takes to escape, heal and rebuild. By signing up, participants are not only conquering their own fears but also raising vital funds to help others find safety and hope.”

In a further boost for the charity, SWA has also been chosen to take part in the Big Give’s Women & Girls Match Funding Campaign. This means that every donation made between 8th and 15th October will be doubled, up to the first £5,000. Funds raised will go directly to SWA’s work supporting women, children and families affected by domestic abuse, and delivering vital education and prevention programmes.

Natasha added: “The timing of this is incredible. By signing up to the Firewalk or donating during Big Give week, supporters can have twice the impact. Together we can help more survivors escape abuse and create safer futures, as well as empowering young people through education to understand and expect healthy relationships in the future.”

The Firewalk takes place on Friday 10th October from 6pm at Swindon Cricket Club. To take part in the Firewalk costs £30 with a commitment to raise £100 in sponsorship. Registration closes at midnight on Sunday, and anyone wishing to sign up should visit www.givengain.com/campaign/firewalk.
