One of Malmesbury’s most historic buildings has entered an exciting new chapter. Gable House, the Grade II listed property on the High Street dating back to 1671, has undergone an extensive refurbishment – emerging as a sensitively modernised collection of residential flats, a spacious retail unit, commercial workspace and the brand-new home of Nimble & Wild Pilates Studio.
The building, once the town’s doctors’ surgery and more recently office space, has long been part of everyday life in Malmesbury. Its careful restoration preserves the distinctive seventeenth-century façade while bringing fresh purpose and activity back into the heart of the High Street.
At the centre of this revitalisation is Nimble & Wild Pilates, one of Malmesbury’s most loved independent businesses. The studio moved into its new light-filled space on 1st December, expanding to eight reformer machines and allowing the team to welcome more clients than ever before.
The refurbishment of the historic building has been guided by Atwell Martin Property Management, whose approach focused on preserving the character of the listed structure while creating contemporary, flexible spaces that serve the town today.
Paul Atwell, CEO of Atwell Martin Property Management, said:
“Seeing Gable House brought back to life has been incredibly rewarding. We’ve always believed in the power of thoughtful, hands-on property stewardship – treating each building as if it were our own – and this project truly reflects that philosophy. Restoring this Grade II listed High Street landmark, which dates back to 1671, and creating space for homes, new businesses and the Nimble & Wild Pilates Studio ensures it continues to be at the heart of Malmesbury life for generations to come. It’s been a privilege to support its next chapter.”
Though the interior had previously been rebuilt, the refurbishment respects and retains the building’s most significant heritage features, notably its striking three-gabled seventeenth-century frontage.
To celebrate the opening and welcome the Malmesbury community into the revitalised Gable House, Nimble & Wild will host a special Open Weekend on 10th – 11th January 2026.
Visitors can enjoy taster Reformer Pilates taster classes, meet the instructors and of course – coffee and cake! The Open Weekend is designed for all ages and abilities – whether you’re curious about your first Pilates class or already an enthusiast.
The transformation of this historic building is already being celebrated as a positive moment for Malmesbury, reflecting the town’s strong independent spirit and commitment to preserving heritage while embracing growth. Nimble & Wild’s expansion marks another step forward for the High Street as a thriving, community-led destination.
