Latest news from Malmesbury Town Council
AN APPEAL has been launched to help find part of the ceremonial Mayoral chain belonging to Malmesbury Town Council which was lost when current mayor Cllr Robert Hastings, was attending various activities during the town’s carnival event at the weekend.
Cllr Hastings is asking residents, businesses and visitors to the town to keep an eye out for the missing piece and to come forward if they have found it or have any information which could help reunite it with the rest of the chain.
“It was only when I was taking the chain off that I realised a small gold piece was missing – measuring about 4 inches and must have come loose during the day when I was visiting various attractions. During the day I visited various areas of the town and we have even been out with metal detectors to try to find it. We’d be so grateful if everyone could look out for it and, if found return it to the Town Hall. I will be offering a smal reward to anyone who finds it.”
The Mayoral chain is an important part of the civic identity of the historic Wiltshire town and is worn by the councillor elected as Mayor when attending official engagements and representing the community.
“I am hoping someone may have spotted the missing part of the chain or perhaps picked it up without realising its significance,” said Cllr Hastings. “I would be extremely grateful if people could help us spread the word so that we have the best possible chance of finding it.”
Anyone who believes they have found the missing item, or who has information which may assist the search, is asked to visit the Town Hall.
