VE Day Celebrations in Fairford
Fairford celebrated the 80th anniversary of VE Day in winning fashion providing a free family-friendly event in the grounds of Fairford Cricket Club. Many historic, military and local groups were represented at the picnic-in-the-park event that was sponsored by RIAT and organised by Fairford Cricket Club; Fairford Steam Show; Fairford Town Council and the Royal British Legion.

Guest of honour at the event was 100 year old Joan Hall, who lives in Fairford and vividly remembers being in Trafalgar Square on VE Day. She said she can’t remember there ever being such a celebration before or since. She was 21 years old at the time and was dancing and singing with her WAAC friends. Last year, Joan was invited to a Buckingham Palace Garden Party and met Princess Anne, the Princess Royal.
